This is a review
from the Serbian metal zine THE VAULT. The translation is a little
rough, so it's hard to tell what is praise and what is put-down.
Either way, still worth it!
DIE INFIDEL
The Pros And Cons Of Progress In A Culture Past It’s Prime
(Pt.1)
January 2004
Now, I expected everything except that this CD might be coming
from LA. You know that stuff – once there was sweet, then
heavy, then melodic, but this surpasses all of my expectations.
Actually, textually and conceptually they don’t stray away
a lot from the self-aware and politically impassioned punks all
over the world. Even the song titles alone speak much for themselves:
Our War Against World, The Teen Angst Sells A Lot
Of Records, or Just Wait Until They Find Out Your Granddad
Was A Nazi. And just what messages and rhymes: “No
Future On This Ride/ Commit Your Suicide”. The next verse
explain their comprehension of punk and music they make: ”Hot
Topic Punk Rock/ It’s Old And Stupid/ It’s Going Down”.
And really, their music sounds as it has nothing much to do with
nowadays’ forms of punk/rock, HC or similar subgenres. To
me it’s more like Prodigy that got hooked up on Rage Against
The Machine sound. It’s very crazy, noisy, catastrophic,
with loads of samples. A great similarity between the title track
(the closing one) and Prodigy’s MTV hit “Firestarter”
is notable. D.I. compared their music with bands like The Dillinger
Escape Plan, Atari Teenage Riot, The (International) Noise Conspiracy,
Refused… You hear it out, compare it and judge for yourselves.
Maybe this does represent the new and creative stuff that future
brings and with which the punk realists will fight against the
corrupt world, but I’m more for a bit less complicated form
with more spirit to it, and less chips and electronic conductors.
